First Published in 1992 and now in its 6th printing, this is the first book to seriously study this specialized field of the dog in art. It has become the standard reference for the genre. Its 367 pages are illustrated with 450 dog paintings, more than 150 in full color, tracing the origins of dog painting and studying in depth its flowering in England and America between 1840 and 1940. The collector and philanthropist, Mrs. Vincent Astor, proclaims that it is "A delight to read because of it's wit and charm…, a must for the dog lover."
