The name of Richard Newton, Jr. (1874-1951), artist, gentleman, master of foxhounds, and a familiar figure in the society of his era, has long since fallen into undeserved obscurity. It is the purpose of the author, the former director of the Museum of Hounds and Hunting, to present and document the paintings that he has largely been instrumental in uncovering, including the historical portraits of masters of the Genesee Valley, Warrenton, Meadow Brook, Piedmont, Middleburg, Orange County and Milbrook hunts. Mr. Newton was master of the Suffolk Hounds.
